Sensor & Cable

The capacitive height sensor system maintains precise nozzle-to-plate distance during cutting. Signal integrity is critical for consistent cut quality.

Sensor System Overview

The capacitive height sensing system consists of:

  • Sensor electronics — Generates and measures capacitance signal
  • Coaxial cable — Transmits signal from cutting head to controller
  • Nozzle contact — Nozzle acts as the capacitive sensing element

Common Cable Issues

ENGINEERING TIP

Cable handling: The sensor cable is the most fragile component in the cutting head assembly. Always create a service loop with at least 50mm bend radius at the cable entry point. Never route the sensor cable alongside high-power cables (>100A) — electromagnetic interference can cause false height readings and catastrophic nozzle crashes.
